So it's been awhile since there has been a new Swivek album but never fear I'm working on it now. A 13 track set entitled "I GUESS I'M NOT ALONE". The songs featured include songs left off of the EVERYBODY HATES YOU album, plus some old lyrics and themes I've wanted to tackle for awhile. I'm also incorporating my pals Devin Tait of Devin Tait & The Traitors, members of the former Signal Ranch group and my pal Amy Crosby of Shitting Glitter to help out. I'm getting very excited, but first recording must commence.
With Prop 8 getting overturned (once again) today seemed to be the perfect to start recording my song "Wounded." The lyrics and music were written the day after Prop 8 was announced as legal back in 2008 (one month after I got married), I was devastated, hurt, and 'wounded.' But I knew (know) our day will come so I wrote the song.So I wrote it the day after Prop 8 was legal and I'm going to re-record it the day Prop 8 was deemed unconstitutional. Seems perfect.
Here are the lyrics:
W O U N D E D Written by Bradley Jacobson
You can’t change what is true Heaven knows, what about you? You’re fading fast from memory You’re on the wrong side of history
I’ve been wounded, I’ve been scorned I’ve burned in flames and been reborn There’s nothing more you will take from me With your hate and your bigotry I’ll walk right through your brimstone And I will find my way home
Why don’t you walk the path of right instead Of hiding behind a book to spew hatred Your time of lies will fade away And bring about a brighter day
I’ve been wounded, I’ve been scorned I’ve burned in flames and been reborn There’s nothing more you will take from me With your hate and your bigotry I’ll walk right through your brimstone, yeah And I will find my way home
And when you’re burning in your own brimstone God will carry me home God will carry me home
Finally after all these years, the Appeals court has deemed Prop 8 unconstituional! I couldnt be happier. It's going to the Supreme Court and we can only for the best. After all, they're going to have to pull my wedding ring off my cold dead hand. Now I can go back to the kitchen and no I'm still a legit housewife :0)
Hey all - I booked another gig for Swivek! Next Wednesday, November 30th Swivek will be performing at Ibiza in Huntington Beach CA! Doors open at 8pm and there are 5 fabulous bands playing - I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE! This is the longest set I've played yet so there will be some surprises. Here is the line up:
Just a reminder that tomorrow at 2:25 Swivek (that's me!) will be performing live at the San Gabriel Valley Pride in Pasadena. It's being held at the Pasadena City College in the Quad and it's free!! There will be a lot of great musicians, DJs and drag performances. Plus for the first time since Don't Ask Don't Tell has been repealed there will be a Marine booth at a gay pride event!! So exciting so come see us!
Tonight the Go Go's are playing at the Greek Theatre in LA. This was where they played one of their first big shows back in 1981 and this is the celebration of the 30th anniversary of their debut album BEAUTY & THE BEAT and it happens to be Belinda's birthday; oh and I happen to be going to the show!
I've never been able to see the Go Go's before so I'm totally stoked. I bought tickets for their Farewell Tour last year but it was cancelled when Jane got hurt so this year I'm even more excited. Plus we got extra special tickets which come with the 30th anniversary remastered Beauty & The Beat CD plus the album on pink vinyl and a T shirt! But most importantly I get to hear them play as a band.
When I was a little MTV used to play videos and they did this thing called "World Premiere Video" when a big artist came out with a new video and I remember waiting all day long for the Go Go's world premiere video for Vacation. Let me share it with you now:
and for extra bonus here's an ultimately rare thing - a TV commercial for the Vacation album:
and stay tuned for my review tomorrow - or Going To A Go Go (s) Part 3
Location: West Hollywood, California, United States
