Get Up On It

This song may be three years old but it's even more poignant today:

GET UP ON IT
Get Up On It
Come on now - let's face the music
Get Up On It
Come on now - let's hit the road
Get Up On It
Come on now - it's a revolution
Get Up On It
Come on now - hey, let's go

Feeling groovy, feel like fun
Feeling moody, gonna get me a gun
In the sh*** towns where they sleep
Dreams of hatred running so deep

We can do it, we can break them
We can beat them, yeah we can make them
Sick of losing, feel like a fool
They're so stupid and we're so cool

Get Up On It
Come on now - let's face the music
Get Up On It
Come on now - let's hit the road
Get Up On It
Come on now - it's a revolution
Get Up On It
Come on now - hey, let's go

Hit the highway, sea to sea
Take it back what they're taking from me
Make them realize, we'll let them know
We won't stand by and watch their hatred grow

We can do it, we can take them
We can beat them, yeah we can break them
Sick of losing, feel like a fool
They're so stupid and we're so cool

Get Up On It
Come on now - let's face the music
Get Up On It
Come on now - let's hit the road
Get Up On It
Come on now - it's a revolution
Get Up On It
Come on now - hey, let's go

Get Up On It
Come on now -
Join the revolution
Get Up On It
Hey, hey let's go!

It Starts With A C

I don't like to get too political - or at least not here on this little blog - but today I'm feeling a bit of an agenda - you see this morning I was listening to some news programs where a couple women were saying they were protesting all the sexism that went on during the Democratic debates of Obama and Hilary and so are thus supporting John McCain instead of the O - now I am all for protesting and the idea that sexism was involved seems important but do these women really think John McCain is less of a sexist than Obama? And do we all have to pay by having another Republican in office just cause Hilary wasn't the nominee?

Meanwhile news came out also that in some private confrontation in his home that John McCain called his wife a ... well I can't really say it... but in the words of Bette Midler, "it starts with a c ends with a t and it's 'cunt'" Now that seems a bit sexist to me... but whatever

Another meanwhile - my sister called me to inform me that our nephew is going into the Marines. My brother had told me Jared was thinking about it and I adamantly said I didn't think it was a good idea unless he really, really had a desire to be in the military - call me selfish but I'm terribly afraid they are going to ship his ass off to Iraq the minute he finishes basic training - but according to him he scored on the tests in the top 10% and the Marine dudes told him he had his choice of what he wanted to do - he wants to work on jets and planes so maybe we'll luck out. In good news about it all he will be in San Diego for training and that's only a couple hours from me - which means in even better news I practically have free passes to Fleet Week!

We are all proud of him but I can't help but be a tad scared as well though my bro insists Obama will be in office in January and the war will be over - since Jared goes in around February maybe we'll luck out.

Whew! All this politics talk got me going so for a cool down let's listen to one of MY favorite songs from one of MY favorite artists from one of MY best albums - Why it's Thursday's Swivek song - and this time we have a little sassy tune about politics from the Army Fatigue album (2005)

Wedding Bells Will Ring

Well it's about friggin' time! It looks like here in the land of la la and ooh la la - we finally have a victory! I (for the moment) have the right to be married to the man I love - according to the California supreme court! West Hollywood is so excited they are serving wedding cake tonight from 7-9! I may have to get me some... of course there's a bunch of out of state and in state money being harbored by the bastards known as the right wing - who think I'm not as valuable a person as they are - so we'll see where we go from here but for now - here's the link (and a pic from my 'domestic partnership' two words that grate on my nerves the same way when I hear Brittney or Madonna are coming out with new albums...)

"In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot.

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

Outside the courthouse, gay marriage supporters cried and cheered as news spread of the decision.

"Our state now recognizes that an individual's capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual's sexual orientation," the court wrote.

The city of San Francisco, two dozen gay and lesbian couples and gay rights groups sued in March 2004 after the court halted San Francisco's monthlong same-sex wedding march.

"Today the California Supreme Court took a giant leap to ensure that everybody — not just in the state of California, but throughout the country — will have equal treatment under the law," said City Attorney Dennis Herrera, who argued the case for San Francisco.
