Monday Muldrums

Okay, first of all last week kicked my hot bootie like nothing has in a while - no, it wasn't Lisa Hartman Week as that was actually fun... actually everything was fun, it just kicked me so hard I ended up missing a night out with my pals - can you believe it?

Secondly, I could have sworn muldrum or meldrum was/were a word.. I did go to college for English - and yet when I looked it up to make sure I spelled it correctly, not even Webster could tell me how to spell it as it just didn't exist... (crap, now did I spell that word right?)

As you can tell, this week hasn't been going all that well either - I woke up super friggin early so I could go to the god awful beast lady known as my dentist and that's how trouble began. First we have a new insurance program at work and for some reason I don't have a card for my dental insurance (the guy told me I didn't need one) but the Leivas actually has new insurance as well and put me on his insurance - of course I have no card for that either.

So I like a schmuck with bad tooth decay saunter into the dental office without any proof of insurance but complete assurance that I am on not one but two different insurance programs. Twenty minutes later I'm on my way to work with still dirty teeth as neither insurance group had me listed...

and that was just the first hour or so of Monday!

Last week, was a bit better despite coming in early now for 2 weeks so I can do extra work, my pal Tommy and his pal from out of town came up to WeHo with a whole gaggle of Orange County cronies. We drank and ate at Marix, we went to see Under The Influence Of Giants in Silverlake, we drank more at Trunks, we drank even more at my house and I went to work on Tuesday...

where an earthquake struck my hungover ass and had me gripping the legs of my desk as I hovered below talking to the Leivas on the phone - "It hasn't stopped yet" were my exact words. Then dinner with Tommy and all the OC boys again - this time sushi on Sunset.. ooh fancy pants I know you're jealous.

By Wednesday with the going out and coming in, and getting up early The Leivas had had enough of social networking and we stayed home.. then Thursday came and Devin from Shitting Glitter came over to finish up some vocals for the song I'm producing and (yes! yes!) do some vocals for two Swivek songs... it was fun and super cool..

so Friday was the beginning of the birthday bash for my pal Luther so I took a disco nap at 7 pm which lasted until 2 AM Saturday morning, where I took a sip of water and went back to bed...

Needless to say the weekend was spent just hanging with the Leivas, watching movies, a few drinks at Trunks (I know, I can't help it!) and a trip to Amoeba on Sunday (I know, I can't help it!)

and now today has hit me ... of course it doesn't help that I hate going to bed on Sunday nights ( cuz I have to get up on Monday morning and work!) so I went to bed last night at like 4:30 only to get up at 6.. not smart... but oh well

okay now I'm finally off to bed ... maybe Tuesday will be a little more foo foo for moi

A Few Of My Favorite Things 3

I am finally over mourning for my dear Sophia and able to jump right back in and look a t a few of my favorite things this week...

First of all anyone can tell I am a strange love for Miss ONJ - hte Livvie and with seeing her just recently at Gay Pride and having Sordid Lives debut this week, I'm all about the Livster. Imagine my utmost surprise when I found this little ditty - the brillianz that is Angelic Dreamz Barbies not only makes a Sandy Good And Sandy Bad doll from Grease, THAT'S RIGHT I'M TALKING ABOUT GREASE BARBIE DOLLS BEATCHES!! They have the coolest Rizzo dolls and now they even have the prom night with Sandy, Marty, Rizzo and Frency in their dresses. Plus they even have a frickin' Cha Cha "I'm the best dancer in all Saint Bernadette" (with the worst reputation) doll! I want them all and I am not sure why.. PS I tried to yank a photo of the Marty doll but the website won't let me so check them out here as they rule the school:

Luckily, when I'm in a pinch for some new music or hours of time on my hands there is but one place in all of LA where I must quench my desires - no not the bar. Frickin' AMOEBA MUSIC in Hollywood - you don't know how much time I have spent in that place. I always have a list for CDs, 45s, LPs, and I even have my list broken out into different genres so I know exactly where to find everything. This last Sunday we headed over where I got some Olivia CDs (see the theme), plus they had a ton of 7" records with the picture sleeves for 50 frickin cents. I ended up buying 67 of them. Don't judge me.

and finally - a remorseful favorite. Every day and night my Leivas sits and watches his news programs and every day and night the newscasters yack and yack about the political movement or stagnacy (if you ask me) of our government - yammering on and on about Obama and McCain. It makes me all sick to my tummy as I realize how I miss my little elfin king - the little midge who should be president of the world - My Little Dennis Kucinich. I want him back! He really is one of my all time favorite things and let me just say how greatly disappointed and almost disgusted I am by the fact that for 12 years now I am going to find myself not voting for who I want as my president but rather against who I do not want as my president. We truly are screwed - and Dennis - take me to your island and become my elfin king!

Of Strippers, Monsters and Deep Voiced Broads

What a weekend! First, have any of you ever done body shots off of a stripper? Yeah, me either. My pal had a little birthday bash this Saturday and all he wanted was a huge bottle of vodka and a male stripper so in the land of La La, dreams do come true and he got them both. I have never been to a house party where a real live stripper showed up. I was of course expecting some beefy man dressed as a cop to jump in and pretend to bust us, but instead we got a skinnier yet pretty buff boy who came in, did some shots, turned on the tunes and did acrobatics all over the guests - it was pretty interesting to say the least - the very least...

The next day the Leivas, I and our pal Tommy did a little brunch at a small cafe on Hollywood Boulevard before walking over to Graumann's Chinese Theater where we sat through Cloverfield - a new monster movie that was pretty frickin' good. I actually loved it, though since its from JJ Abrahams of Lost, I figure I have to see it a few more times to catch all the goods. Though rumor has it, if you watch the ending shot - there's a part where the camera is focused on the ocean and you can see something fall into the water - thus maybe just maybe letting us know where the monster came from. The strange thing is, I thought I had seen something fall in the water and thought maybe it was just me... oh well, if you haven't seen it - go, it's pretty fun. Though the hand held camera work had the Leivas in a bit of a tizz...

and in the saddest part of this Martin Luther King day, one of my favs has passed on. Suzanne Pleshette who made the original Bob Newhart Show so enjoyable died yesterday. You may (or may not recall) that the first time I voted in California the Leivas and I walked over to the fire station to cast our votes and there in line was Suzanne and her husband Tom Poston. I was so excited - it was way more exciting than the time Michael Jackson came into my store.. I mean this was frickin' Suzanne Pleshette...

The whole weekend was topped off by getting a gift certificate for Amoeba from my mom and her boyfriend Bob and a $50 gift card from my father. So of course I hit up Amoeba, though I also (of course) forgot both the gift card and the gift certificate but that didn't stop me from buying some excellant things - okay excellant to me anyway including the vinyl LPs of Cher's Take Me Home and Prisoner, Pointer Sisters' rock album Priority and Melissa Manchester Emergency - don't judge me... I also picked up a ton of 45's for a dollar each including a bunch of Sheena Easton as she had the tendancy of putting out B-sides that never appeared on her albums and I am continually trying to get all of my top 100 singles of the 80's in actual 45 form, I only have a few more to go...

For an extra treat - here is an old video of Man 2 Man's "Male Stripper" - our stripper didn't allow cameras so this is as close as you can get...
